Universidad de la Habana is the top ranked university in Cuba, followed by Universidad Central Marta Abreu de la Villas in 2nd place and Instituto Superior Politécnico José Antonio Echeverría in 3rd place, according to the Webometrics ranking of Top Colleges and Best Universities of Cuba (July 2011).

The University of Havana (Universidad de La Habana) is located in the Vedado district of Havana, Cuba. Founded in 1728, it is the oldest university in Cuba and one of the first to be founded in the Americas.

Central University "Marta Abreu" de Las Villas commenced its first academic year on 30 November 1952. The University has the following faculties: Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Mathematical Physics and Computing; Chemistry - Pharmaceuticals; Industrial Engineering & Tourism; Construction; Agricultural Sciences; Economic Sciences; Humanities; Social Sciences; Psychology; Law; Information Science and Education.

The University of Oriente - Santiago de Cuba (Universidad de Oriente - Santiago de Cuba, UO) has been ranked 4th among the top universities in Cuba by Webometrics. It was founded in 1947 and is organized into the following faculties:Faculty of Humanities; Faculty of Natural Sciences; Faculty of Social Sciences; Faculty of Electrical Engineering; Faculty of Economics and Business; Faculty of Law; Faculty of Mathematics and Computer; Faculty of Construction; Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; School of Chemical Engineering; Distance Education School.
