University of Khartoum is the top ranked university in Sudan, followed by Sudan University of Science & Technology in 2nd place and National Ribat University in 3rd place, according to the Webometrics ranking of Top Colleges and Best Universities of Sudan (July 2011).

In another league table, 4icu.org university web ranking 2011, University of Khartoum is ranked 1st in Sudan, ahead of Sudan University for Science and Technology (2nd), International University of Africa (3rd), Ahfad University for Women (4th), and Bayan College for Science and Technology (5th).

The University of Khartoum is one of the largest universities in Sudan and has been recognized as a top university in Sudan. It is a member of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World. The University of Khartoum was founded as Gordon Memorial College in 1902 and established in 1956 when Sudan gained independence.

Sudan University of Science and Technology (SUST) is the largest technological university in Sudan and is situated in Khartoum State, in the heart of Sudan. It offers a wide spectrum of degrees (Diploma, Bachelor, higher Diploma, Master and Ph.D.) in addition to training and continuing certificates.

The International University of Africa is a private university located in Khartoum, Sudan.
