The largest universities and colleges in the state of Iowa are the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and Des Moines Area Community College.

The University of Iowa is among the state's largest employers and a university with a world-renowned reputation. The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the largest University-owned teaching hospital in the country, is a highly specialized referral center serving patients from the entire nation.
