Wayne State University is a leading public research university located in Detroit, Michigan, USA. It is classified as a Research Intensive University (Very High research activity), or RU/VH, by the Carnegie Foundation.

Wayne State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, one of the six regional agencies that accredit U.S. colleges and universities at the institutional level. - Wayne State University is placed among Tier 2 National Universities by US News 2012.

- Wayne Law was ranked as a top-40 law school in the 2010 Super Lawyers listing. The list, which ranked law schools based on the number of graduates selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers magazine, placed Wayne Law 37th out of 180 law schools nationwide.

- The University is ranked high among the national leaders of doctoral degrees awarded to Hispanics, according to The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education's "Top 100 Colleges for Hispanics 2009" edition. WSU, which awarded seven doctoral degrees to Hispanics from July 2008 to June 2009, also earned the honor of being the highest-ranked Michigan school on the list.

- Wayne State University School of Business Administration is an outstanding business school, according to The Princeton Review. The School was featured in the 2010 edition of "The Best 301 Business Schools".

- 21st in the US News ranking of Top Nursing-Midwifery Schools (2008).
