Harvard University is the No. 1 ranked university in the world according to the 2014 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), ahead of Stanford University (2nd worldwide) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3rd worldwide, up from 4th in 2013). There is one new entrant in the top 20 list: University College London (up from 21st in 2013 to 20th in 2014).
