Founded in 1894, Fitchburg State University is a public institution located in the city of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, USA. It is the first public college in Massachusetts to offer a nursing program.
The University offers a range of undergraduate and graduate programs through the following academic departments: Department of Biology and Chemistry; Behavioral Sciences; Business Administration; Communications Media; Computer Science; Education; Economics, History, and Political Science; English; Exercise and Sport Science; Geo/Physical Sciences; Humanities; Industrial Technology; Mathematics; Nursing.
The Education Department offers academic programs in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School; Special Education; and Educational Leadership and Management.
Fitchburg State University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc., the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education, the Council for Standards in Human Service Education, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
The nursing program has full approval status from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. The University's programs are also approved by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification, the Interstate Certification Compact of Educational Personnel, the State Board of Registration in Nursing, the Board of Higher Education, and the Commonwealth Honors Program.
Fitchburg State University has been ranked the highest among the nine state colleges in the annual U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges. The University has also been recognized for low student debt.
