1. University of Washington, Seattle - The University of Washington is ranked 16th among the best universities around the world in a study by the Center for World-Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2011). The University is also ranked 3rd in medicine and pharmacy, 5th in life sciences, 17th in mathematics, and 20th in computer science.

2. Washington State University - The University stands among 96 public and private universities in America with "very high research activity" (Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching).

3. University of Oregon - It is a world-class institution and Oregon's flagship public university, ranked 111th in the "Best National Universities" list of top tier institutions in the U.S. News Media Group 2011 America's Best Colleges rankings of 1,400 schools.

4. University of Idaho - It is among Forbes Magazine's “America's Top Colleges” for 2012. The institution ranked 154th among the nation's research universities and 85th in the west. Forbes also ranked U-Idaho 38th in the nation in its “Top 100 Best Buy Colleges” for affordability.
