However, one of the most important metrics for evaluating the success of these institutions is the median domestic salary of their graduates. A higher median salary often reflects not only the quality of education but also the industry demand for graduates from that institution. Based on the data from the Outlook Magazine 2008, here is a list of the top 25 business schools in India by domestic median salary:

At the top of the list is the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Delhi University, with a median domestic salary of ₹18.94 lakh. Known for its rigorous academic environment and strong industry connections, FMS has been a leader in producing top-tier management professionals.

Closely following FMS is Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad), with a median salary of ₹17.81 lakh. As one of the premier IIMs, it continues to be a symbol of excellence in management education and attracts some of the best recruiters from various sectors.

XLRI, Jamshedpur ranks third, with a median salary of ₹16 lakh. Known for its specialization in human resources and business management, XLRI has a legacy of producing highly employable graduates.

SJMSOM, IIT Mumbai comes in fourth with a median salary of ₹15 lakh. The institute benefits from being part of the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), which enhances the value of its management program.

S P Jain, Mumbai follows closely in fifth place with a median salary of ₹13.96 lakh. Its global exposure and industry-relevant curriculum make it a preferred choice for students aspiring to enter multinational corporations.

Other top-ranking institutions include IIM Indore at sixth place with a median salary of ₹13.07 lakh, JBIMS, Mumbai at seventh with ₹12.7 lakh, and NITIE, Mumbai at eighth with ₹12.5 lakh. These schools have consistently ranked highly due to their academic rigor and strong corporate relationships.

MDI, Gurgaon (₹12.28 lakh), NMIMS, Mumbai (₹11.22 lakh), and XIM, Bhubaneshwar (₹10.5 lakh) round out the top ten. These institutions have continued to deliver excellent career outcomes for their graduates, reflecting their high academic standards and the trust that employers place in their alumni.

The remaining institutions on the list also showcase strong results, with IMI, Delhi and IIFT, Delhi each offering a median salary of ₹10 lakh, and Symbiosis, Pune at the same salary level. Schools such as IMT, Ghaziabad, BIM, Tiruchirapalli, and Alliance, Bangalore continue to show strong placement records, with median salaries ranging from ₹8.6 lakh to ₹8.7 lakh.

Institutions like ICFAI, Hyderabad, Welingkar, Mumbai, and LBS Institute, Delhi also feature on the list, with their graduates earning starting salaries of around ₹8 lakh.

While some of the smaller and less well-known schools such as Loyola, Chennai and Nirma, Ahmedabad rank lower, they still offer solid outcomes for their graduates, with salaries nearing ₹7.5 lakh.
