University of York in RAE Top 10 Ranking

The University of York (UK) achieved outstanding performance in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), confirming its status as the world leading research university.

91% of the University’s eligible research staff were submitted for assessment in the 2008 RAE.

A total of 12 departments were ranked in the top 10 in the UK with almost all departments in the top 20 position.  The result places the University among the Top 10 leading universities in the UK for research.

Chemistry at York is ranked 3rd amongst UK chemistry departments for research quality, with 75% of the department's research work rated as internationally leading or internationally excellent, on par with Oxford, Imperial, Warwick, and Bristol.

More RAE 2008 Ranking Achievements:

- Ranked joint 1st in the UK for Sociology.

- Social Policy and Social Work at York ranked 5th nationally.

- 1st for health services research.

- 2nd for linguistic research.

- Philosophy, Physics and Politics were all ranked in the top 20 department.
