Top Liberal Arts Colleges in Illinois

According to the US News & World Report, a total of five colleges from the state of Illinois made it to the list of Top 100 libearl arts rankings 2009. Wheaton College is the highest ranked liberal arts school in the state (#1 in Illinois and #56 nationally), followed by Illinois Wesleyan University (#60 nationally), Augustana College (#88 nationally), Knox College (#88) and Lake Forest College (#94).

Wheaton is ranked 56th out of 265 schools in the Best Liberal Arts category. It is also ranked the 7th most popular liberal arts college by the 2009 U.S. News & World Report. It is also named as 100 Best Value Colleges for 2009 list (The Princeton Review). It is ranked #1 for Best Campus Food and #1 for Town-Gown Relations. Wheaton is rated 15th for Best Values in Private Colleges 2009, according to Kiplinger's. In addition it is placed 3rd in the nation among liberal arts colleges (Washington Monthly).

Illinois Wesleyan University is the second best school in the state. It is ranked 34th among the nation's best values in private liberal arts colleges identified by Kiplinger's Personal Finance 2009. It is also placed 31st in the country among baccalaureate institutions for the total number of students studying abroad, according to the latest Institute of International Education's (IIE) Open Doors report.
