Bristol is ranked as one of the Top 70 Universities in the world by THES and Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2008. (32nd in THES 2008)

Bristol has six academic faculties:

- According to the Times Subject League Tables 2008, it is ranked 3rd for the following subjects:
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering,
  • Computer Science,
  • Biological Sciences, and
  • Mathematics.
- Ranked 4th for Business and Management Studies by Guardian Education 2008.

- 3rd Drama, Dance and Cinematics; and Italian Language (The Times 2009).

- 6th for Geology and 9th for Economics (Times 2009).

- The Department of Politics and International Relations is ranked 4th in the Times 2007 and is rated 'Excellent' in terms of teaching quality by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA).

- 14th in the RAE 2008 Rating.
