Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a leading private research university located in the state of New York, US. The Institute has five schools:

RPI is a Top 50 National Universities in the United States, placed 41st nationally in the US News & World Report's National Universities Rankings 2009.

- In the US News & World Report's “America’s Best Graduate Schools" 2009, it is rated 32nd overall for graduate engineering, with another three specialties ranked among the Top 20 nationally: nuclear engineering, aerospace engineering, and materials science and engineering.
- According to the 2010 U.S. News & World Report guide to “America’s Best Graduate Schools", the Graduate School of Engineering is ranked 31st for its graduate engineering programs in the country, moving up from 32nd in the previous year. In addition it is ranked highly in other specialties: 20th in electrical engineering program, 21st in industrial engineering, and 22nd in mechanical engineering.
- The Master of Fine Arts in multimedia/visual communications program is rated 6th in the country (US News 2010).
