Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011
Fiske Guide rates colleges on the strength of their academics and social life. The 2011 edition of the college guide features some of the country’s best and most interesting universities and colleges, such as the follows:
Millsaps College
- It is one of only 24 private colleges and the only college in Mississippi named a "Best Buy". Millsaps has been consistently recognized by the guidebook since its inception in 1982. In the past, the guide has given Millsaps high marks for its Heritage Program, an interdisciplinary approach to world culture, and premedical summer research fellowships. Fiske's 2011 Best Buys Private Institutions include: Alfred University, Adelphi University, Baylor University, Brigham Young University, Cooper Union, Cornell College, Deep Springs College, DePaul University, Drexel University, Elon University, Florida Southern College, etc.
Carnegie Mellon University
- The University's School of Music was selected by Edward Fiske, author of the premier college directory in the country, "Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011," among the top undergraduate music programs that should be on high school musicians' radars. Other schools chosen in addition to CMU include: Berklee College of Music; University of California at Los Angeles; Curtis Institute of Music; Eastman School of Music; etc.
Adelphi University
- The University was rated a “Best Buy” in higher education by the Fiske Guide to Colleges (2011). It was one of 45 institutions (21 public and 24 private) to be recognized by the best-selling college guide. To be qualified as a “Best Buy” institution, Edward B. Fiske takes into account many qualities such as: four- or five-star academic ratings, inexpensive or moderate price category, and quality of student life on campus.
The University of Mary Washington
- It is the only institution in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia to be named as a "best buy" in the prestigious Fiske Guide to Colleges 2011. In addition the university has received national recognition in other selective guidebooks such as Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine, U.S. News & World Report, Peterson’s Competitive Colleges, Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges and Forbes online magazine.
