Kiplinger's Best Value Public Colleges

Following are the best performers in the Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine's rankings of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" 2010:

Indiana University - The University moved into the top 30 for the first time in Kiplinger's rankings of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges", ranked 28th overall, and 3rd among Big Ten universities. IU was ranked behind Big Ten peers at the University of Wisconsin (14th) and the University of Michigan (19th).

University of Maryland College Park - It is placed among the Top 10 list of Best Values in Public Colleges 2009-2010. Maryland is ranked 8th on its 2010 list, jumping from 9th in 2009 and 28th in just two years. Selected from a pool of over 500 public four-year colleges, schools in the Kiplinger 100 were ranked according to academic quality, including admission and retention rates, student-faculty ratios and four- and six-year graduation rates, as well as on cost and financial aid.

Binghamton University, State University of New York - For the second year in a row, Binghamton is ranked No. 1 for out-of-state students, making it the most affordable university in the nation for non-New York students. It also moved up two places to 5th for in-state students making it the top buy for New Yorkers. Other public universities on Kiplinger’s top ten best values list include the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Virginia, the University of Florida, and the College of William and Mary.

The University of California, San Diego - It is ranked the ‘best value’ in California, according to the list of 100 best values in public colleges and universities in the February 2010 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. It is ranked 11th in the nation and the top-ranked public university in California, above UC Berkeley, UCLA and UC Irvine.

The University of North Carolina Wilmington - It is one of the "Best Values" among public universities in the nation and one of the top four in North Carolina, according to Kiplinger's 2010 rankings. The University is ranked 27th nationally as a "best value" for in-state students and 25th for out-of-state students. Kiplinger's has rated UNCW in the top 5 public universities in the state since 2003.
