Carnegie Mellon University - Sierra Magazine has ranked Carnegie Mellon University the 10th "Coolest" School in its November/December 2007. This is the first year the magazine has conducted a survey on college and university green practices, taking into account everything from green-building policies and clean-energy purchases to campus food quality and bike facilities.

Oregon State University - The University’s leadership in environmentally responsible practices has earned it a spot in the Kaplan College Guide 2009’s list of America’s top 25 “green colleges”. OSU is the only Oregon university on the list. The University of Washington is the only other institution included from the Pacific Northwest.

The University of Maryland - It has been named one of the Top 15 Green Colleges and Universities by Grist, an online environmental magazine based in Seattle. UM is the only state flagship university on the list that also includes schools in other countries.
