Top Optometry Schools

Following are some of the top leading optometry schools and colleges:

Cardiff University (UK) - In the Higher Education Funding Council assessment of undergraduate teaching quality in UK Optometry departments, the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences at Cardiff University has obtained one of the highest rankings throughout the UK and was awarded the designation 'Excellent'.

The New England College of Optometry (NECO) (USA) - The College was founded in 1894 as the Klein School of Optics and is the oldest continuously operating school of Optometry in the United States. NECO is particularly known as a center of excellence for research in the etiology, prevention, and treatment of myopia.

University of Houston College of Optometry (UHCO) (USA) - It offers a variety of degree programs including Doctor of Optometry (OD), a combined Doctor of Optometry / Doctor of Philosophy (O.D./Ph.D), Master of Science (M.S.) and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.).

University of Missouri–St. Louis (USA) - The Professional Program of the College of Optometry is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education. The college also sponsors affiliated residencies supervised by nationally recognized optometrists located at the Veteran’s Administration Hospitals in St. Louis, Kansas City and beginning in 2008 Wichita Kansas.

University of Waterloo (Canada) - The School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo delivers an accredited, four year degree program leading to a professional Doctor of Optometry (OD). Upon graduation from the OD program, candidates are ready to write the certification exams and begin their career practicing optometry.

University of New South Wales (Australia) - The School of Optometry and Vision Science offers undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research programs. Postgraduate coursework programs on offer include a Master of Optometry, Graduate Diploma in Optometry and Graduate Certificate in Optometry. Research degrees include Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy.

Queensland University of Technology (Australia) - The School of Optometry offers a dual undergraduate and postgraduate program leading to eligibility to practise as an optometrist. It also has strong masters and doctoral research programs. The Optometry dual degree is accredited by the Optometry Council of Australia and New Zealand.
