Established in 1971, Indiana University East (IU East) is part of the Indiana University system.

The University is organized into the following schools: School of Business & Economics; School of Education; School of Humanities & Social Sciences; School of Natural Science & Mathematics; School of Nursing; School of Social Work; School of Continuing Studies. Areas of study include Accounting (B.S.), Biochemistry (B.A.), Biology (B.S., B.A.), Biotechnology (B.S.), Business Administration (B.S.), Chemistry (Minor), Elementary Education (B.S.), English (B.A.), and more.

It also offers online degree completion programs and certificate such as the B.A. in English-Technical and Professional Writing, B.A. in Communication Studies, B.S. in Business Administration, Graduate Certificate-Composition Studies. Indiana University East online students may be eligible for federal financial aid programs including loans and grants.

Indiana University East is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. IU East’s programs in business, education and social work are nationally accredited by their specialized accreditation associations.

The School of Business and Economics is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The Schools of Social Work is one of the oldest in the nation. The Bachelor of Social Work program (BSW) is accredited, and students are taught by nationally recognized, full-time faculty and seasoned practitioners.

In 2007 IU East launches intercollegiate athletics in women's volleyball, men's basketball, and men's golf and joins the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
