University of Belize is the top ranked university in Belize, followed by Galen University in 2nd place, according to the Webometrics ranking of Top Colleges and Best Universities of Belize (July 2011).

Galen University is an independent, community-oriented university chartered by the Government of Belize. It offers a range of educational programs at the undergraduate, graduate and professional level in business, arts and sciences, and education.

The University of Belize (UB) is a national, autonomous and multi-location institution committed to excellence in research, higher education, and service for national development. The University's main campus is located in the capital city, Belmopan.

University of Belize has the following faculties:
- The Faculty of Education and Arts (FEA) offers a range of programs including Bachelor Degree, English (BENG); Associate Degree, Primary Education (APRE); Bachelor Degree, Business Education :Accounting (BBUE); Bachelor Degree Biology (BBIE); Bachelor Degree, Math Education (BMAE); etc.
