University of Maryland University College (UMUC)

Founded in 1947, the University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is an accredited degree-granting institution in the University System of Maryland (USM), with worldwide reputation for excellence as a comprehensive virtual university.

UMUC is one of the largest distance learning universities. In FY 2009, it had over 196,000 online course enrollments.

University of Maryland University College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Master of Business Administration program is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE). The Master of Distance Education (MDE) program received EFMD CEL accreditation in 2006.

In 2007 UMUC's M.S. in Biotechnology Studies and M.S. in Environmental Management degree programs were designated "Professional Science Master's" programs by the Council of Graduate Schools.

- Instructional Technology Council (ITC) awards UMUC's online MBA program Outstanding eLearning Program of 2010.

- KMI Media and Military Advanced Education (MAE) have named UMUC one of the top 20 colleges and universities serving military students for 2008.

- In Fiscal Year (FY) 2007, UMUC's worldwide enrollment ranked 1st among 4-year degree granting public universities in the U.S., according to data from Department of Education.

- The MS in accounting and information technology, the MS in information technology, and the MS in information technology, telecommunications management programs were each ranked as Best Buys out of a survey of 67 distance education computer learning programs offered by regionally accredited institutions nationwide (GetEducated.com).

- Black Issues in Higher Education magazine ranks UMUC 7th in the nation for awarding master's degrees to African Americans (2004).
