Cambridge is ranked 1st among the top universities in the UK, followed by Oxford (2nd), and London School of Economics (3rd), according to the 2014 Guardian University rankings.
The University of Bath is ranked 7th out of 119 universities and colleges, a rise of two places on last year. In addition, Bath is placed equal 1st for overall student satisfaction in the table, equal 3rd in the UK for student satisfaction with the teaching provided and equal 7th for graduate career prospects.
Coventry University has made a big jump of 13 places to 33rd overall in the Guardian University Guide 2014 national rankings, marking the institution out as the No. 1 modern university in the UK. In specific subject areas, Coventry is in the top 20 in the country for several disciplines including art and design (14th), business and management (11th), mathematics (19th), modern languages and linguistics (12th), and media studies and communications (16th).
The University of Northampton successfully made it into the Top 50 in the latest national Guardian League Table for 2014; jumping to 47th place, 39 places above last year's position.
Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has jumped 29 places up in the league table 2014 and is now ranked 69th in the UK. It is also ranked highly in the subject-specific tables: 12th in the UK for Tourism, Transport and Travel; 13th for General Engineering; 14th for Sports Science; 22nd for Architecture; 25th for Education; 27th for Pharmacy; among others.
