Best Regional Universities in the West 2017

Trinity University (Texas) is ranked No. 1 “Regional University” in the West according to the 2017 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. The regional universities classification includes 653 institutions within four broad regions—North, South, Midwest, and West. Like national universities, regional universities offer a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s programs.

Santa Clara University is ranked No. 2 among the best regional Universities in the West, earning an overall score of 95 out of 100. SCU’s first-year retention rate of 95 percent ranks the highest of any master’s university in the country, and it’s 84 percent graduation rate is the highest in the West.

Gonzaga University is rated the 4th best regional university in the West for the second year in a row. This marks the 18th consecutive year that Gonzaga has been ranked among the top four regional universities in the West, and the 22nd consecutive year (29th in the past 32 years) it has been ranked among the best regional universities.

Hardin-Simmons University has again earned a top tier ranking among the regional universities in the West by U.S. News and World Report's 2017 Best Colleges and Universities guide. It is ranked 33rd among the more than 120 best regional universities in the West. HSU ranked #34 last year in the same category.
