University of Mobile Profile

Established in 1961, The University of Mobile (UM) is a four-year private Christian university located in Prichard, Alabama (USA). It offers more than 40 areas of study in the College of Arts and Sciences; schools of business, Christian studies, education and nursing; Center for Performing Arts; Center for Adult Programs; and graduate school. The university is one of only 137 colleges and universities in the United States meeting the requirements to be recognized in "America's Best Christian Colleges".

UM is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention. The University of Mobile is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees. It is also an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

The University's School of Business is accredited by the ACBSP (Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs) to offer the following programs: Bachelor of Science Degree with majors in Accounting, Business Administration, and Computer Information Systems; and the Master's of Business Administration (MBA). The School of Business offers majors in accounting, computer information systems, and business administration (with concentrations in Finance, Global Business, Managerial Entrepreneurship, Management, and Marketing).

The Associate's, Bachelor's and Master's degrees in nursing are accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission. The School of Nursing offers associates and bachelors degrees in nursing as well as the Master of Science in nursing with a major in Nursing Education/Administration.

The school of education offers degrees in early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, human performance and exercise science, athletic training, and Master of Arts in Education. The Athletic Training Major is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Rankings:

- Placed in Tier 3 among Master's Universities in the South (US News & World Report). It is one of 10 IABCU (International Association of Baptist Colleges and Universities) institutions listed in the Universities-Master's category in the 2010 rankings of America's Best Colleges.

- Placed among the top master’s-level universities in the South, ranked 56th, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2008 edition of “America’s Best Colleges”. Factors considered include peer assessment, average freshman retention rate, class size, average graduation rate, student/faculty ratios, percentage of full-time faculty, the percent of freshmen in the top 25 percent of their class, ACT/SAT test scores, acceptance rate and alumni giving rate.
