Following are the leading medical schools in Bulgaria:

Sofia University Faculty of Medicine
- It is the first school of higher education in Bulgaria.
- The Faculty has the departments of Biology, Medical Genetics and Microbiology; Physics, Biophysics and X-ray Studies; Chemistry and Biochemistry; Anatomy and Histology; Physiology and Clinical Physiology; Pathology and Forensic Medicine; Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology; Internal Diseases; Pediatrics; Neurology, Psychiatry, Physio-therapy and Rehabilitation; Surgery; Obstetrics and Gynecology; Preventive Medicine and Social Health; Epidemiology, Infectious and Skin Diseases.

Medical University of Sofia
- The preparatory academic year is organized at the University's Department of Foreign Languages and Student Sports and includes courses in Bulgarian, Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology.
- The University has the following faculties: Faculty of Dental Medicine; Faculty of Medicine; Faculty of Public Health; Faculty of Pharmacy; Language Training and Student Sports Department.

Pleven Medical University
- The University has all theoretic, pre-clinical and clinical departments required for the higher medical education.

Medical University of Plovdiv

Trakia University of Stara Zagora Faculty of Medicine
- It was established in 1995 by Decree of the 37 th National Parliament.
- The University has legitimate institutional accreditation by resolution of the National Assessment and Accreditation Agency at the Council of Ministers.

Varna Medical University
- It was established in 1961. The University is a modern educational, scientific and therapeutical centre in North Eastern Bulgaria.
- Medical University “Prof. Paraskev Stoyanov” - Varna is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and by the ECFMG of the United States.
