Bangor University is a leading university based in the city of Bangor in the county of Gwynedd in north Wales. It was founded as the University College of North Wales in 1884. The university is ranked highly in a number of surveys, consistently placed amongst the top 50% out of over 140 universities in The Guardian and The Times.

The University is divided into six Colleges:
- College of Arts & Humanities
- College of Education and Lifelong Learning
- College of Business, Social Sciences & Law
- College of Health & Behavioural Sciences
- College of Natural Sciences
- College of Physical & Applied Sciences

Ratings and Ranking Performance:

- According to the Complete University Guide , Bangor is ranked 46th in 2008, 55th in 2009 and 63rd in 2010.

- According to The Times Good University Guide, it is ranked 47th in 2008, 51st in 2009 and 55th in 2010.

- 72nd in the Guardian University Guide 2010 (placed 61st in 2009).

- 10th in the UK for Student Experience in The Times Higher Education Supplement (December 2007).

- Nearly 50% given the top two grading of 3* and 4* in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008). Psychology was rated 7th (out of 76) for research power. Accounting & Finance is rated No. 1 in the UK, and Electronic Engineering in No. 2 position.

- Rated the top university in the UK for the help and support provided for students by the Times Higher Education Supplement.

- Ranked in the Top 10 for Computer Sciences, Agriculture & Forestry and Nursing; Top 20 for Sports Science and Theology and Religious Studies (Guardian University Guide 2008).

- A Top 10 University in the UK for teaching quality and computing facilities in the UK National Student Survey 2007.

- Over 50% of the departments assessed have achieved the top rating of 'Excellent' in the Teaching Quality Assessment (TQA).

- rated 11th for overall satisfaction and in the top 20% of UK Universities and Colleges according to the National Student Satisfaction (NSS) survey published in 2008.

- 9th for Art and Design, 14th for Music, 23rd for Geology (Times 2009).

- 46th in the Daily Telegraph University Ranking 2007.

- 43rd in The Push League Table 2008.

- The International Student Barometer survey 2008 ranked the University in the top 10 nationally for teaching quality and learning support, Top 10 for employability and careers advice, Top 10 for financial support, Top 15 for research quality and lecturer expertise, and Top 20 as a multicultural study environment.
