Bangor University is a leading university based in the city of Bangor in the county of Gwynedd in north Wales. It was founded as the University College of North Wales in 1884. The university is ranked highly in a number of surveys, consistently placed amongst the top 50% out of over 140 universities in The Guardian and The Times.
The University is divided into six Colleges:
- College of Arts & Humanities

- College of Business, Social Sciences & Law
- College of Health & Behavioural Sciences
- College of Natural Sciences
- College of Physical & Applied Sciences

- According to the Complete University Guide , Bangor is ranked 46th in 2008, 55th in 2009 and 63rd in 2010.
- According to The Times Good University Guide, it is ranked 47th in 2008, 51st in 2009 and 55th in 2010.
- 72nd in the Guardian University Guide 2010 (placed 61st in 2009).
- 10th in the UK for Student Experience in The Times Higher Education Supplement (December 2007).
- Nearly 50% given the top two grading of 3* and 4* in the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008). Psychology was rated 7th (out of 76) for research power. Accounting & Finance is rated No. 1 in the UK, and Electronic Engineering in No. 2 position.
