Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA Australia) is the largest professional accounting body in the country and the seventh largest in the world, with more than 122000 members working in 100 different countries.
To attain CPA status, a candidate will need to hold a bachelors degree or a postgraduate qualification of at least eight units. Following are some of the most prestigious Australian institutions (Group of Eight [ Go8 ] Members) offering degree programs that meet all the requirements of joining the CPA Program.
The University of Adelaide:
Adelaide is ranked as one of the World's top 100 universities, placed 62nd in the THES-QS World University Rankings 2007, moving up 43 places from 105 in 2006.
The School of Commerce offers the degrees of Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Master of Commerce (Accounting) for those who want to explore career opportunities in the field of accounting. Both the undergraduate and postgraduate accounting programs are accredited by CPA Australia.
The University of Western Australia:
UWA is placed 83rd globally in the Times Higher Education Supplement World Rankings 2008, and rated 78th in the Newsweek ranking of global universities.
The Business School offers two accounting majors in the Bachelor of Commerce degree: Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting. This is an excellent program for those who want to work as cost accountants, management accountants, management consultants, or auditors.
