Top 20 Universities in UK
According to the UK university ranking tables published by The Times Good University Guide, The Independent Complete University Guide and Guardian Newspaper, a total of thirteen UK institutions are consistently ranked in the Top 20 in all the three league tables (The 2010 Edition). They are among the most prestigious universities in the country, and six out of the thirteen institutions are members of The 1994 Group (representing smaller research-intensive universities in the UK).
These six members are: St Andrews, Durham, York, Bath, Leicester and Loughborough. The University of St Andrews is the highest ranked institution from The 1994 Group, rated 3rd in Guardian, 4th in The Times and 7th in The Complete University Guide. It is also the highest ranked school in Scotland, ahead of another leading institution, Univ of Edinburgh, in all the tables.
Following are the universities that ranked in the Top 20 nationally in all three league tables:
Loughborough University
The university is the winner of the ‘Outstanding Support for Overseas Students’ award in 2007. It successfully moved into the Top 10 list in recent years, currently rated 10th in Guardian.
London School of Economics
LSE is a Top 10 institution in the UK. It is also rated 4th out of 120 institutions in the Sunday Times University Guide 2008, and placed among the World's top 40 universities - came 34th in the Newsweek ranking of top 100 global universities.
University of Leicester
Leicester is placed 15th in both The Times and Guardian. It was also ranked joint first (with Loughborough University) for overall student satisfaction and teaching quality in the National Student Survey.
University College London
UCL is one of the top 5 universities in the UK, placed 5th in The Times. It is ranked 7th in the THES - QS World University Rankings 2008, and 22nd internationally in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2008.
University of York
York is placed No. 10 in The Complete University Guide 2010. According to the RAE 2008, the university has 12 departments ranked in the top 10 in the UK with almost all departments in the top 20 position.
University of Edinburgh
It is placed 7th in Guardian 2010, moving up two places from 9th in 2009. In the RAE 2008 Edinburgh is ranked in the Top 5 in the UK and Number One in Scotland by volume of 4* 'world-leading' research.
