Nipissing University is a primarily undergraduate university with a strong reputation for excellence in teacher education, arts, science and professional programs. The University received its charter as an independent University in 1992.

Nipissing University has the following faculties: the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Arts & Science and the Faculty of Applied and Professional Studies.

Degree programs are offered in a wide array of disciplines including Biology, Business, Classical Studies, Child and Family Studies, Culture and the Arts, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, English, Fine Arts, Geography, Gender Equality and Social Justice, History, Liberal Science, Liberal Arts, Mathematics, Native Studies, Nursing, Philosophy, Psychology, Social Welfare and Sociology. The Marketing stream of the BBA degree is accredited by the Canadian Institute of Marketing.

Nipissing University is an accredited university with full membership in the Council of Ontario Universities (COU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC).

Ranking Profile:

- Received an A+ and is tied for first place in their grouping for Class Size. It also also earned an A and another tie for first place for Quality of Education and Most Satisfied Students. In addition it received As in the key categories of Student-Faculty Interaction and Campus Atmosphere, and an A- in Teaching (Globe and Mail 2010 Canadian University Report).

- Ranked 20th out of 21 schools in the Primarily Undergraduate category (2008 Maclean’s University Rankings). In addition it is placed 1st overall (out of 41 Canadian Universities) in six of nine categories. Among Nipissing’s core strengths were small class sizes, student-faculty interaction and superior student services.
