Guardian University Guide 2011
Oxford University is ranked No. 1 nationally in the league table for sixth year running. Cambridge remains at 2nd position out of the 118 higher education institutions in the UK, followed by Warwick (up from 4th to 3rd) and St Andrews (4th nationally) in the 2011 Guardian University League Table.
Leicester climbs three places to 12th (the highest ever placing in the Guardian’s guide). It is ranked 5th in the ‘satisfied with teaching’ column, 10th in the ‘satisfied with feedback’ column and joint 2nd for overall satisfaction.
Lancaster has jumped into the top 10 in all three university league tables: Guardian (16th to 6th), Times (23rd to 10th), and the Complete Guide (12th to 8th).
The University of Sussex climbs three places into the UK's top 15 institutions, making it the top university in the South East outside London. Subjects at Sussex ranked in the top 30 nationally include: Anatomy and physiology (3rd); Chemistry (5th); American Studies (5th); Social Work (8th); Physics (10th); Computer Sciences and IT (10th); Biosciences (10th); Media Studies (11th); Sociology (11th); Anthropology (11th); Mechanical Engineering (17th); Psychology (18th); History and Art History (18th); mathematics (20th); philosophy (20th); English (22nd); law (24th); Politics (24th); Geography (26th).
