University of Cape Town - Rankings

Founded in 1829, the University of Cape Town (UCT) is a top ranking public university located in Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is the oldest university in South Africa.

UCT has become a partner in the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), making it the first African member of this global network. WUN is a partnership of research-led universities from North America, Europe, South East Asia and Australia.

In 2007 UCT was the only African university to make it into the top 200 of the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) World University Rankings.

University Rankings:

- University of Cape Town is ranked 107th in the world according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2010-2011, moving up from its 146th spot in 2009.

- University of Cape Town is ranked 1st in Africa and 340th in the world (Ranking Web of World Universities, July 2010).

- Ranked 161st globally in the QS World University Rankings 2010. In addition it is ranked in the world's top 200 for the following subjects: Life Sciences (119th), Natural Sciences (162nd), Social Sciences (183rd).

- University of Cape Town was ranked as the top university in Africa and maintained its place in the range 200 to 300th globally in the Academic Ranking of World Universities released by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2010).

- UCT's MBA programme was ranked 89th globally by the Financial Times in 2010, and was ranked 2nd in the "value for money" category.

- University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business was voted by Eduniversal as the top business school in Africa in terms of influence for the second year running (www.eduniversal.com, 2009).
