US News Engineering School Rank 2012

Massachusetts Institute of Technology is ranked first in the U.S. News Engineering School Rankings 2012, followed by Stanford University (2nd) and University of California--Berkeley (3rd). MIT has been listed as No. 1 since the rankings were first produced in 1990.

Vanderbilt School of Engineering is highly regarded as one of the best in the nation. The School of Engineering’s Ph.D. program is tied for 37th with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, ahead of Virginia, Case Western Reserve and Washington University in St. Louis, and just behind Rice, Yale and University of Colorado-Boulder in U.S. News's 2012 rankings of Best Engineering Schools.

Colorado School of Mines is ranked 64th among the best engineering graduate schools. Several of Mines' graduate engineering programs are also ranked highly including chemical engineering at 49th, environmental engineering at 34th and materials engineering at 26th.

Michigan Tech’s College of Engineering has improved its performance in the league table. Tech’s graduate engineering program is ranked 85th in the nation in 2012 rankings, moving up from 86th last year. In addition, four graduate engineering specialties were ranked in the top 50 nationwide for the second year in a row. Environmental Engineering is ranked 28th; Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics each ranked 48th; and Civil Engineering ranked 49th.

The Texas Tech University Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering overall graduate engineering program moved up to 95th among 198 programs nationwide. The Department of Industrial Engineering ranked 29th in the Industrial/Manufacturing category, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering ranked 66th in the Electrical/Electronic/Communications category and 72nd in the Computer Engineering category, the Department of Chemical Engineering ranked 68th in the Chemical category, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ranked 73rd in the Civil category, the Department of Mechanical Engineering ranked 93rd in the Mechanical category, and the Department of Computer Science ranked 121st in the Computer Science category.
