McPherson College Profile

McPherson College is an accredited liberal arts college chartered in 1887 by leaders of the Church of the Brethren. It is located in the community of McPherson, in central Kansas. The city of McPherson has been consistently ranked in the top 40 of the “Best Small Towns in America”, and Progressive Farmer magazine has named McPherson County the third-best place to live in rural America and the best place to live in the rural Midwest.

Majors are offered in Art, Auto Restoration, Biochemistry, Biology, Business Admin, Chemistry, Communication, Elementary Education, English, Environ. Studies, History, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy & Religion, Physical Education & Health, Psychology, Sociology, Theatre. The interdisciplinary option allows students to explore many career options by combining courses from different departments or divisions into one major. In addition students can pursue one of the pre-professional programs in Engineering, Forestry, Law, Medicine/Osteopathy/Dentistry, Optometry/Podiatry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy/Physician Assistant, or Veterinary Medicine.

McPherson College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. It is also accredited by the Kansas State Department of Education and by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. The College holds numerous memberships with other professional agencies and organizations.

The McPherson College Automotive Restoration Technology Program is the only school in the United States to offer an accredited bachelor's degree. The program offers degrees in Automotive Restoration Management, Automotive Restoration Technology, Automotive Restoration Design, Historic Automotive Technology, and Automotive Communications.

The College has established a financial aid awarding policy that considers a number of factors including Academic Achievement, participation in Co-curricular Activities, and Financial Need. The majority of its students receive financial aid annually from federal and state programs, McPherson College scholarships and grants, work-study programs and loans.

McPherson College is placed among Tier 2 National Liberal Arts Colleges in the United States by US News & World Report (2011).
