Top Universities in Syria

Damascus University is the top ranked university in Syria, followed by Al Baath University in 2nd place and University of Aleppo in 3rd place, according to the Webometrics ranking of Top Colleges and Best Universities of Syrian Arab Republic (July 2011).

Damascus University is the largest and oldest university in the Syrian Arab Republic. It was established in 1923 through the merger of the School of Medicine and the Institute of Law.

Founded in 1979, Al-Baath University is Syria's fourth largest university. It has the following faculties: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Informatics Engineering, Faculty of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, etc. Institutes within the University include: Institute of Computer Sciences – Homs; Institute of Computer Sciences – Hama; Higher Institute of Languages; Higher Institute of Water Management.

Al-Baath University was selected to be the leading university to apply the sub-initiative of Entrepreneurship in Higher Education, launched by the ETF within the initiative of Euro-Mediterranean Charter for Enterprise.
