Largest Universities in Ohio

The largest universities in the state of Ohio are Ohio State University in Columbus, The University of Cincinnati, Kent State University, Ohio University, among others.

The Ohio State University's main Columbus campus is one of America's largest and most comprehensive. Ohio State's 2010 enrolled class (Columbus campus) of 6,549 set record highs in average ACT (27.8) and SAT (1235) scores and in the percentage of students graduating in the top 10 percent of their high school classes (54).

For many years, the University of Cincinnati was the second oldest and second largest municipal university in the country. The University is classified as a Research University (Very High Research Activity) by the Carnegie Commission and is ranked as one of America’s top 25 public research universities by the National Science Foundation.

Kent State University is ranked the second largest public university in the state of Ohio. For the fall 2010 semester, Kent State reported 41,365 students, a 7.56 percent increase in enrollment from the prior year and the highest recorded enrollment in the university’s 100-year history. Increased enrollment at Kent State’s regional campuses as well as rising enrollment of international students and students among the AALANA (African American, Latino American and Native American) population have helped propel the university to now become the second largest in Ohio. Kent State’s eight campuses are located in Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Geauga, Kent, Salem, Stark, Trumbull and Tuscarawas.

Ohio University is one of the best colleges in the Midwest according to education services company The Princeton Review. It is the oldest public institution of higher learning in the state of Ohio and the first in the Northwest Territory. Ohio University operates one of the largest intramural sport programs in the country.
