QS Rankings 2016-2017

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was ranked No. 1 in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2016-2017, followed by Stanford University in 2nd place and Harvard University in 3rd place.

The University of St Andrews was ranked 77th in the QS World Rankings 2016/2017, the 10th year in succession that St Andrews has been ranked among the world’s elite higher education institutions. St Andrews was ranked particularly highly (20th in the world) for its ability to attract students from overseas. It was also ranked 77th in the world for the strength of its international faculty of teachers and research active staff; and 82nd in the world for citations, the number of times its research work is referenced by other academics.

The University of Reading has retained its place in the top 200 institutions in the world. It was ranked 175th overall out of over 4,300 considered by the compiler in the world – its second highest ever year-on-year ranking. It was ranked 28th out of 73 UK institutes ranked.

Birkbeck has achieved its best ever position in the 2016/17 QS world university rankings, being placed 280th globally – in the top third worldwide. Birkbeck rose ten places compared to last year's world rankings to place the College in its highest ever position. The College has risen nearly 100 places in the rankings since 2012. In addition, Birkbeck has been ranked 8th in London, and 12th in the UK for citations per faculty, indicating the strength of the College's research, up from 16th place last year.
