Top Universities in Massachusetts

There are many top ranking universities in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. According to the US News & World Report's National Universities Rankings, a total of 10 institutions from the state is placed at Tier 1 in 2009, with Harvard ranked as the No. 1 National University in the country. MIT is the second best in the state (rated 4th nationally), followed by Tufts (28th nationally) and Brandeis (31st).

Suffolk University has been placed in the top tier of Master's Universities in the North by US News & World Report. It is named as one of The Best 368 Colleges in The Princeton Review 2009 edition.

Northeastern University is placed 2nd on the list of "Up-and-coming National Universities" (USNWR 2009). The College of Business Administration has been ranked 24th in the U.S. by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review in their fifth annual ranking of top entrepreneurship undergraduate programs.

Boston University is one of the top leading private research and teaching institutions in the world, ranked 54th among the world's best institutions by QS World University Rankings 2009.

Clark University is ranked among the global top 600 institutions by QS World University Rankings™ in 2009.

Fitchburg State University has been ranked the highest among the nine state colleges by U.S. News and World Report.

Framingham State University is rated 720th best college in the nation (StateCollege.com, 2009).

The University of Massachusetts Amherst is ranked 81st in the world for scientific and scholarly activities, according to the 2010 Webometrics assessment.

UMass Dartmouth's Charlton College of Business is an outstanding business school, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company features the university in the 2007 edition of its "Best 282 Business Schools".

UMass Lowell is a nationally ranked research university. Researchers have projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institute on Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), Department of Defense, Department of Education, and many other federal and state granting agencies.
