Northern Illinois University (NIU)

Chartered in 1895, Northern Illinois University (NIU) is a leading public university located in DeKalb, Illinois, USA. It is a member of the Universities Research Association, and a member of the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities.

Northern Illinois University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. In addition the university is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education to offer teacher education programs and offers several teacher certification programs which are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. The undergraduate programs in electrical engineering, industrial and systems engineering, and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The College of Law is accredited by the American Bar Association and is a member of the Association of American Law Schools. The College of Business has achieved accreditation from the the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

- 60th in the US News Ranking of Top Speech-Language Pathology Schools (2009). It is ranked 41st for its graduate Public Affairs programs.

- NIU College of Business is ranked as among the nation's best by making the listing of "America's Best Colleges and Programs" (2007).

- Public Accounting Report ranked NIU's graduate accounting program 17th in the nation; the undergraduate program ranked 12th (2007).
