Maclean's University Rankings 2011

McGill University is ranked No. 1 in the Medical Doctoral category in the Maclean's magazine's 2011 University Rankings, followed by the University of Toronto in 2nd place and the University of British Columbia in 3rd place.

Queen's University moved up one place to 4th overall for medical doctoral universities, and holding steady on most indicators of performance this year. Queen's is top in the country for student retention, the proportion of students who graduate with a Queen's degree, and the number of full-time professors winning national awards. The University has maintained its seventh place position in the national reputational ranking since 2005.

The 2011 Annual Maclean's Ranking of Canadian Universities placed University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg) 4th for overall reputation (up from 5th in 2010) and 1st in Western Canada among primarily undergraduate universities. In addition, UWinnipeg is placed 3rd nationally for nurturing ”Leaders of Tomorrow” and was also one of 10 universities in Canada singled for community outreach initiatives.

University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) has moved up four spots from 8th to 4th overall among 'primarily undergraduate' universities in this year's rankings. The climb is due in large part to the University's strong showing in the 'student awards' and 'total research dollars' categories, placing the University in a tie with Alberta's University of Lethbridge.
