Top Universities in Illinois

Illinois has some of the very best national universities in the US. According to the US News & World Report rankings, five Illinois universities are placed at Tier 1 with three rated in the Top 40 nationally: University of Chicago is ranked 8th nationally in 2009, followed by Northwestern University (12th), University of Illinois--Urbana-Champaign (40th), Illinois Institute of Technology (102nd) and Loyola University Chicago (116th).

Aurora University is a private liberal arts college offering four-year undergraduate, master's and doctoral degree programs. Many of its faculty members hold a Ph.D. or the highest degree in their field.

Benedictine University is ranked 37th among more than 140 schools classified as “Best Universities – Master's” in the Midwest, according to the 2008 figures published by U.S. News & World Report.

Bradley University is recognized as the top Illinois university of its type and No. 6 overall among Midwest universities providing a full range of undergraduate and master's programs (US News 2010).

Chicago State University is Chicago's oldest, fully accredited public university. It has a Division of Continuing Education and Non-Traditional Programs that offer extension courses, distance learning, and not-for-credit programs.

Concordia University Chicago is recognized as a top tier Master's university in the Midwest (USNWR 2010). It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.

DePaul University was the only Illinois university honored for service learning by U.S.News & World Report in its “America's Best Colleges 2009” edition of the top 25 service learning programs in the nation.

DeVry University is one of North America's largest degree-granting institutions offering programs in technology, science, business, the arts, and management.

Illinois Institute of Technology is ranked as the 102nd best college in US News and World Report's "Best Colleges 2009".

Illinois State University is recognized as one of the ten largest producers of teachers among American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education institutions.

Loyola University Chicago holds the esteemed Carnegie-classification of research-intensive university. It is one of the largest of the 28 Jesuit universities and colleges in the United States.

Midwestern University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission/A Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (HLC/NCA).
